The annual Ebune parade took place this past Sunday, April 17. Led by Oscar Mokeme, director of Portland’s Museum of African Culture. Ebune Procession of the Ram is a cross-cultural parade of masks, puppets, banners and drums. The event draws its inspiration from West African rites of spring that invoke the spirit of the Ram as the harbinger of renewal and rebirth. Ebune is an open event, so it is open to anyone who can bring a ram-themed puppet, mask, banner, or musical instrument and join the celebration.
